Become an Official

What does it take to become a Tennis Official?

  • Be at least 16 years of age;
  • An interest in tennis usually makes your time as an Official more enjoyable - but isn't essential;
  • No prior experience necessary;
  • Good natural or corrected vision.
  •

What roles are there?

  • Line umpires;
  • Chair umpires;
  • Court Supervisors;
  • Referees; and
  • Chiefs of Officials.
  •

And what training is involved?

One step at a time, you will be trained from scratch on how to become the best Tennis Official you want to be. After initial training, you'll be encouraged to put into practice what you've learnt at Tournaments as often as you're available.

After your initial training, you will be able to branch out to become a Line Umpire or Court Supervisor (or both if you like). Once you're comfortable with that role, training for other roles will become available.

Great, so how do I get involved?

Fill in the simple form below and a Recruitment Officer from your state will contact you with more information:

Then once I'm involved, where could this lead me as a Tennis Official?

The training pathway a Tennis Official can follow, is described here. A Tennis Official is subject to experience and selection at the higher levels.
